What is a magnet and what does it do?

magnet is a material or object that has a magnetic field and it attracts  metal like nickel, cobalt, iron etc. Magnets have a north and south pole. Like poles repel and unlike poles attract.

Magnets are used for the following:-

1. They are used for navigation for example in a compass. In a compass, the needle is not just an ordinary needle, it is a magnet showing the way!!! Even modern ships and planes use them.

2. They are used in motors to convert electrical energy to Mechanical energy.

3. They are used in generators to produce electricity.

4. In scrapyards they are used to separate metal from non-metals.

5. There is a trains that us magnets to make it move fast.

6. They are used in medicine to scan the body for diseases or damage.

Magnets are very useful, and are used in our everyday life.
